These baskets are made from plant fibers. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully natural.
Banana fibers are the fibers from the layered stems of cultivated banana plants. The intense brown color develops naturally when the fibers are dried in the sun for about a week. The individual strands are then rolled into the characteristic, approximately 6 mm thick strands. Only old, dying banana plants are used for this material. This allows these plants a second life as a dimensionally stable and robust raw material for many handmade baskets.
